Many of us have clung to the media, catching glimpses or sound bites of the aftermath of the China Earthquake. I know I gasped at the thought of losing a child in his own school...and that, combined with the one-child policy. It's heartbreaking, isn't it?
Which is why we need heroes. This breastfeeding mama and policewoman breastfed hungry babes in the aftermath of the earthquake, 9 at one point. Five are orphans and have since gone on to orphanages. Others, the mothers were injured or stressed their bodies escaping from the region and depleted their milk supplies. She is currently still feeding two babes. The wonderfully humble 29-year-old, Jiang Xiaojuan, says that any mother would have done the same.
It's a mother's reaction, and a basic duty as a police officer to help....This was a small thing, not worth mentioning.
Jiang's own 6-month-old is with family while she helps at the quake zone. She gives new meaning to working mama, and is an inspiration: do what is necessary when help is desperately needed.
